Favorite Picks•I consistently find myself drawn to work that engages the senses. Sometimes it is work that is heavily textured, patterned or has an intriguing use of color. The work that often engages me has a story to tell or a mystery to solve. In abstract work like Sliver 3 and Candy Kisses, the rich color and visual textures immediately draw me in. We seem to have caught ourselves in the midst of a story in my favorite photographers' work: Ostrich by Traer Scott, Empty Drawers by Eric L. Hansen and Pink Bedroom (Windowseat) by Richard Tuschman. These are the kind of works I'll return to again and again, each time adding another layer to the story I see or coming up with a new one altogether.
Selecting Art•I stand by the old adage, buy what you love but I also believe in making wise investments. For the majority of collectors, especially newbies, I believe it wise to keep track of the type of work you're drawn to. If you find yourself continually thinking about a particular piece or are consistently enamored of the work by a certain artist, then that is a sign that it's time to buy!
Why Buy Original Art?•Buying original work has a huge value beyond monetary, you are choosing to live with a very personal creation -- the materials the artist touched, struggled with and gave birth to. It is a rare gift and a wonderful responsibility to care for such a thing. You are not only supporting the artist monetarily but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually and telling the creator that there is great worth in the work of their mind and hands.
