Goosenecks State Park offers some of the most twisted and rugged landscape overlooks in Southern Utah. The grey rocky canyon walls provide great texture and tonal ranges for black and white photography. To get the desired perspective on this particular shot, I had to hike down several hundred feet into the canyon. Hauling myself and all of my equipment back out, proved to be the most adventurous part of this shot.

Artist Statement

In expressing the narrative of “The Western Abandon” Cody Brothers concentrates his focus on abandoned farms, crumbling homes, neglected churches, aging cemeteries, forgotten cars and other objects, set within the vastness of the southwestern landscape.  He works almost entirely with infrared film, using a range of different cameras, from a 4x5, a 6x17 panoramic, to a pinhole.
