I have always been drawn to landscapes seen from a distance, like topographical maps. I did a layered etching suggestive of a rocky landscape seen from above and overlaid it with more geometrical images suggesting mapping marks. The interesting etched, rough landscape dominates the print, overwhelming attempts to confine it geometrically.

Artist Statement

My abstract, hand-made prints on archival paper have multiple layers of different printmaking and painting techniques. I use the beauty of textures, colors, patterns and shapes from bark, leaves, plants, stones, sky and other things from nature to capture a particular mood or experience. I use man-made architectural or geometric shapes and lines to contrast and emphasize this weathered, irregular natural beauty.

Best advice you’ve been given • Do it with conviction!

Goals/Aspirations • Continue to explore the variations of making prints. Experiment not only with the methods but use more three-dimensional constructs, like printing on wood.

Favorite artist • It is hard to choose one, I like so many for different reasons. Helen Frankenthaler. I love her field painting and her woodblock prints.

What are you reading • Wabi-Sabi for Artists, Designers, Poets and Philosophers by Leonard Kohen.

Hope to learn how to • Create wood sculptures

You spend a lot of time thinking about • Art, change and adaptation

Favorite musical artist • Hard to pick one, I like classical and folk music

What do you do when not creating art • Gardening, reading, cooking, taking care of business.
