This mixed media work began with an acrylic snap line as a structure, this relates to the structure of the musical staff in earlier pieces. I then add parts of old, unresolved and unfinished monotypes. Taking these prints, cutting them up, and giving them new life has been extremely satisfying, I call the process purging. The title comes after the fact. I rarely have a preconception, when a work is complete, I reflect on the process, look at the work, and allow the title to come.

Artist Statement

This work was inspired by a group show entitled "Lighten Up". The timing couldn’t have been better. I’d been working with imagery inspired by the Dead Sea Scrolls and the tension in the Middle East. A dominant motif was imagery of a soldier pointing his gun toward Syria. The timing was right for a new direction and my work has since evolved to be a bit more playful.
