This painting was inspired by one of my many road trips to Maine. The view is from the bridge going into Kennebunkport, a favorite fishing spot for locals. Over the last few years, I've been working on a series of paintings based on time spent on Cape Cod, Maine and the Florida Keys. These paintings are about water and reflections, the way the landscape takes on a mood of its own, light moving across the water, defining the details of marsh grass and dunes, inviting us into its intimate and personal world.

Artist Statement

Light inspires me and moves me forward to the next painting. It's a journey, a great quest taking me to various parts of the country to witness its' beauty. Light defines form, it creates mood, it reflects color and illuminates the natural world into something poetic, like the light and darkness of storms or the brilliance of sunsets.

Best advice you’ve been given • Time is of no consequence, just keep working

Goals/Aspirations • To explore more, I always want to explore more!

Favorite artist • I just saw a show in Philadelphia of Paul Strand, which put me in touch with the artists of that era, such as Arthur Dove, Georgia O'Keeffe, Rockwell Kent, I love that time period in art. The painters that influenced my work directly though are artists like John Kensett, and the Hudson River School.

What are you reading • I'm currently reading 'Days of Abandonment' by Elena Ferrante. It reads like a classic Italian cinema film!

Hope to learn how to • Ride a horse. The few times I've been on horseback, I've questioned my sanity. Why am I on the back of this huge beast? Out West I see people on horseback and it seems so natural. It would definitely offer another, more intimate view of the natural world.

You spend a lot of time thinking about • Painting

Favorite musical artist • Stan Getz, Bill Evans, Nakai, Keith Jarrett. I tend toward jazz, but also listen to classical.

What do you do when not creating art • Going on walks, meeting friends, taking road trips.
