An image from my "2012 Through the Pinhole 366" project. Shot mid morning, while on a photo excursion to Joshua Tree National Park. Being one of my favorite places to visit, I had previously photographed here on many occasions. However, I had never been completely satisfied with my results. With this image I believe I finally captured what I had been looking for all along. I love the perspective and composition of this shot. Also, the long exposure (pinhole), enabled me to capture the dreamy nature of the low moving clouds.

Artist Statement

In expressing the narrative of “The Western Abandon” Cody Brothers concentrates his focus on abandoned farms, crumbling homes, neglected churches, aging cemeteries, forgotten cars and other objects, set within the vastness of the southwestern landscape. He works almost entirely with infrared film, using a range of different cameras, from a 4x5, a 6x17 panoramic, to a pinhole.
