This woodcut was part of a series I consider an homage to the world of print media and language. Social media sites were in full tilt, twitter was taking off- texting was leaving me in the dust. I carved several sheets of plywood for printing but felt that OMG most captured my feeling about the digital revolution and our ability as humans to adapt to a rapidly changing world. The Third Wave and Global village are upon us- and so is Emily Dickinson with her keen eye to spot the universal story in the garden.

Artist Statement

I use a variety of media to explore the ways we humans record the experience of being alive. I like paper because of the way it holds memory, from printed words to stains and creases. Each work on paper is unique. Ink, paint, graphite, ephemera, and text, converge in what appear as urgent records of discovery, inviting the mind to wonder, searching the fringe of consciousness for a narrative thread.

Best advice you’ve been given • ‘’Be yourself, everyone else is taken.” (paraphrased from Oscar Wilde)

Goals/Aspirations • To get out of my own way so what comes through is an honest record of the moment.

Favorite artist • I fell in love with Francis Bacon's drawings at the Gate Theater in Dublin- like them more than his paintings. He and Giacometti are now my two favorites for drawing...into drawing right now I guess. It always changes.

What are you reading • Looking for a new book.....

Hope to learn how to • Speak Spanish

You spend a lot of time thinking about • What’s next - aka, the emerging future

Favorite musical artist • I listen to a lot of Brazilian and French music in the studio - I like café music that is melodic and meaningless (I don’t speak Portuguese or French)

What do you do when not creating art • Thinking about making art
